Honokaa Rodeo Parade

| One of the biggest annual events in the town of Honokaa is the Hawaii Saddle Club's rodeo. During the week leading up to the rodeo the town celebrates Western Week, which honors the tradition and lifestyles of the Paniolo, or Hawaiian Cowboy. Western Week activities in Honokaa include the two day rodeo, square dancing, farmer's market and the annual parade, which is showcased here.

1998's rodeo parade was held on a windy and nearly rainy Saturday morning, May the 30th. As townsfolk and visitors lined up along main street, it looked like the windy weather would also bring us the usual rain showers, well known in this area. Luckily throughout the length of the parade, it did not rain this year. The sun managed to peep out of the clouds to bring some warm rays upon spectators and parade participants alike.
Like small town parades all over Hawaii and the U.S., this event featured the gathering of friends and family from far and near. Many who participated in the parade were local townsfolk and visitors here for the rodeo. The parade consisted of several marching and mounted (on horses) units as well as a handful of floats.
