By Moses Kealamakia, Scoutmaster Hilo Boy Scout Troop 91

On August 16, 1996, a group of Boy Scouts went to Waipio Valley, to plan their year, to do a service project, and enjoy the breathtaking scenery. It was a simple overnight campout on the property of Ainsley Loo. While there, the boys helped Mr. Loo with the making of the `auwai (ditch), body surfing, spearing for prawns, gathering fern shoots (ho`io), gathering edible snails (ligdig), and lots of eating.
